YSCP believes in the education of the “whole child.” While core subjects are crucial, the arts are a way for students to develop creatively, physically, and mentally. Weekly offerings of art, music, in all grades share the foundations of: Working together and team building. Creative thinking and problem solving Developing a respectful relationship with peers Building independence and self-confidence Additionally, students are able to take their learning further if they so desire; students in grades 4 through 8 may choose to participate in band and/or choir.

Mrs. Hurtz and Mrs. Jones are both excellent music teachers at our school. Mrs. Hurtz focuses on teaching modern music classes with the best quality, while Ms. Jones integrates music into the International Baccalaureate (IB) program exceptionally well. They both take our students to various music events in the area, providing them with opportunities to experience music outside of the classroom. Additionally, they offer band and choir classes for students who are interested in learning instruments and singing. Overall, Mrs. Hurtz and Ms. Jones are passionate about music education and provide a diverse range of opportunities for their students to learn and grow in this field.

In art classes, students have the opportunity to explore their creativity and express themselves through a variety of artistic mediums. From painting and drawing to sculpting, our class offers a diverse range of projects that allow students to develop their skills and experiment with new techniques. Our passionate art teacher, Mr.Nevins will guide students through each project, encouraging them to think outside the box and take risks in their artwork.
