The National Geographic Bee is an annual competition organized by the National Geographic Society, designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world.
Students in grades four through eight (4-8) from 10,000 schools across the United States will compete in the 2018 National Geographic Bee for a chance to win college scholarships and the glory of being the National Geographic Bee Champion.
Reading Competition Team is a group of students who come together once a week to celebrate reading. Our YSCP team calls itself The Spinecrackers, making a joke about the process of cracking the spine of a new book. There is a list of books created by the Central Intermediate Unit which we agree to read. Each student chooses multiple books that they are responsible for reading so that we can make sure that a few students have read each of the 21 titles. We are super excited to attend the competition this year!
YSCP students compete in Math League competitions hosted in different schools throughout the year. YSCP typically hosts the last competition of the year at the end of March, and teams from MNMS, PFMS, and Altoona join us for the event. Students compete in individual categories (Mystery, Geometry, Number Theory, Arithmetic, and Algebra) as well as a team round.
YSCP holds a Science Showcase that asks students to participate in science experiments. K-5 students display work from their science classes throughout the year. Awards are given for students opting to participate in upper elementary grades.
MS students create a culminating display that shows their individual efforts on a year-long endeavor that investigates a hypothesis of their choosing. This showcase features judges from the community with an interest and background in science; awards are given to top-ranking students.
International Academic Competitions organizes enriching and exciting team and individual competitions in history, geography, science, the humanities, and other subjects for primary and secondary students of all ages. On March 18th, YSCP hosted the Regional Competition for the International Academic Bees. The categories were History, Geography and Science. 10 of our YSCP students qualified for the National Competition to be held in Arlington, VA, June 1st through 4th. They will be competing against kids from across the US. I am super proud of all our competitors!

ROBOT GAME- We build and program all kinds of robots using Mindstorm EV3 robots.
PROJECT- We research and develop a solution to real-life problems, share with our community, and present in an engaging way.
CORE VALUES- We learn together. We honor the spirit of friendly competition. What we discover is more important than what we win. We have FUN!.
